I was looking for an efficient flash diffuser that can be attached to my cobra flash or to hammerhead. I found this Lambency universal model and last but not least, it is very unexpensive :
It is provided with a white dome and with an amber dome. The mounting system is very simple and can be attached to a wide range of flash units.
It is built using soft plastic so you can carry it attached out of your bag without fear.
The aim of such a diffuser is to enhance your light when you use a single flash setup.
The setup is very simple :
- Indoor it must be directed to the ceiling.
- Outdoor for fill light, it must be oriented directly on the subject
This diffuser reduce the shinings on the skin caused by the direct light and it also reduce the shadows usually caused by a single light source. So with a reduced setup you can get a nice lighting.
But in certain circonstances, it may lead to wrong metering. The worst case would be a room with a dark wood made ceiling and with pink walls. Your picture will be underexposed because the dark ceiling does not relect the white light crossing the dome and the pink wall will lead to a wrong white balance. Instead of improoving your picture, everyting goes wrong. So be carefull with the colors of your walls and ceilings!
It will be the same if you use it outdoor directed to the sky : the sky will never relect the light crossing the white dome ! So outdoor it must always be oriented in direction of the model.
